An earthquake and a hurricane in the same week.

Gotta love living in New York City. ;)

I have supplies and I'm following the news for updates, and that's all I can do right now. I'm going to spend my weekend inside and pray the power doesn't go out. If it does, there are a lot of books I can read and I could should work on my unfinished stories. I'm just hoping that the flooding won't be too bad in the city. *crossing fingers*

My roommate and friend left today in order to move to Germany. I'm very happy for her, but I'm also going to miss her and now I have the dubious honor of trying to find a new roommate. There were two people who looked at the room recently, but it doesn't look like either one will be moving in anytime soon. If anyone on my friends' list lives in the New York City area and/or knows of someone who needs a room in NYC, please comment or email to let me know. I'll be placing an ad in Craigslist, but if I can find a new roommate through other means, that would be better.

1. Went to go sign my lease tonight and found out our building had been sold to new landlords yesterday, (not completely surprised, since they had told my roommate this was a possibility when she signed her portion of the lease). The problem ended up being that they didn't have our lease anymore, thus I couldn't sign it, and now we have to wait for the new owners/landlords to give us info about who to contact, where to send our rent money, etc. Did I mention that our rent is due, oh, today? *snort* Guess they are not getting it on time this month.

As a result of all of this, I've come to the conclusion that the Universe is bored and likes to throw this crazy shit at me from time to time to see how I'll react. Somehow I'm not particularly amused about it this week.

2. Have a job interview next Tuesday for an unpaid, editorial assistant position with a social connection/media website. Actually looks really interesting and could potentially lead to a full-time position. I know I still need to search for a paying job, but the fact that I finally landed at least one interview gave me a boost today.

3. They made a movie from the novel, Never Let Me Go, which I read in 2006, when I was in England. That was also the same period when I read The Time Traveler's Wife and The Brief History of the Dead. All rousing, happy-go-lucky books, I must say. *cough* Regardless, the trailer for NLMG looks amazing and I'm totally going to try and see it when it comes out in theaters.

Check it out here: http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/47923443.html#cutid1

4. I really want to see The Last Airbender, but I am slightly worried about the bad reviews. That whole series' narrative was perfectly complete and I was totally satisfied by the ending. *sigh* Don't want to be sadly disappointed.

5. This past week has been all kinds of weird, (in a good way?). Got to see Adam Lambert twice in concert, (and meet him as well). Met a popular AI journalist and got to hang out with him. Saw Kris Allen at Yankee Stadium. And there's the possibility another journalist might be able to help me out with finding at least some freelance work soon. All in all, I'm totally loving NYC so far, even with the slightly crappy days, here and there.

Got to NYC in one piece. So far, the apartment is working out fine and I'm settling in. The only major issue is that the movers screwed over our schedule and they aren't arriving until this weekend. *grumble* They were supposed to be here Tuesday. My mom and sis came up to help me set up my bed and now they won't be here when it arrives. Have I mentioned how I have the worst visual/spatial skills and can't put together furniture to save my life? This is going to be interesting.

Have an appointment with a temp agency tomorrow, so keep your fingers crossed for me. Applying for jobs and I'm going to be joining some publishing networking groups soon. Things are looking up and once my furniture/other stuff gets here, I'll feel even better.

Officially found an apartment in Manhattan.

Still looking for a job.

Incredibly freaked out right now.

But, regardless, I'm going to be a New Yorker by June 15th. OMG, this summer is already all kinds of nuts, isn't it?

Ok...

Did go up to NYC for a day, (before flying back for [livejournal.com profile] ckdutchess's bachelorette party and Mother's Day), and saw some apartments in Washington Heights and in Brooklyn. Put some money down to hold an apartment, it didn't work out, and now I have to pick up my refund check. Apparently got to keep my job, and if I wasn't moving to NYC, I could continue working through the summer. (I have no fucking clue why. It's beyond strange at this point). Attended [livejournal.com profile] ckdutchess's wedding. Was very nice and lovely. Went a little nuts with finding an apartment and almost got taken in by a scam. Hated myself there for a little bit, but I got past it, (for the most part), and now I'm back in NYC again with my roommate this time, (who is awesome, by the way!), and we just spent all day looking at apartments. I'm beyond exhausted right now.

That about covers most of May right there. I'll be in NYC until 6/1 and we are determined to find something before then. No pressure at all! *snort*

Also still need a job. *heh* Temp agencies and more apartment searching tomorrow. Wish me luck!!

A quick update about NYC, etc...

I'm going to be living with a girl I work with now, who was already planning on moving to NY in June. She has contacts in the city and we are looking at cheap 2 bedroom apartments in Brooklyn. If I can arrange it, I hope I can go up to the city for a day and take a look at a few apartments and, hopefully, make a decision soon. It's weird how all of this is coming together, but it is, and I couldn't be happier about it. There's also the possibility for some freelance work and I'm keeping my fingers crossed about that as well.

Also have one credit card paid off and I'm working on putting as much as I can into my savings.

Every little bit helps. :)

Crazy things I've done lately:

1. sign up for a bigbang fic challenge. I haven't written anything in a long time, much less a long fic, but somehow I'm determined this time. Plus, I'll be out of work soon, so, you know, I'll have more free time.

2. finalize my timeline for when I'm going to move to NYC. June is the deadline. Looking for summer sublets, temp agencies to send my resume to, as well as more jobs to apply to. So nuts. (but it's going to happen).

Ermm...those are about the craziest things I've done lately. Everything else has involved working toward my NY goal, catching up with my various fandoms, attempting to spend some family time with my dad before he has to go back overseas, working on the plans for my friend's wedding, and not panicking along the way.

It feels a little bit like I have a life right now. Which is kind of strange, I must say.

(I also totally need to post more often than I do).
